Just Because He's Kind
One of the most amazing qualities you will ever see is someone is kindness. They move through the World differently. They want to do whatever it takes to help and lift others without the thought of personal gain. Kindness is a selfless characteristic. It is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) It is no wonder that it is from God, Himself. I watch those videos some times on Youtube or Instagram where a person will give money to help a random stranger that they asked for help from initially. Usually, the people that were asked to assist need it more than the person who is creating the video. It is amazing though how kindness breaks down walls and barriers otherwise set between the most unlikely of friends.
I noticed how contagious kindness can be. People will start to help someone in a dire situation and those around will get in there to do the same. It becomes good all the way around. When I find myself meditating on this notion, I look at God. You knew I was going there, right? Yup! I look at Him. I turn my gaze to the God of the Universe who is more kind than anyone could ever imagine. Human beings are kind because at the essence of who God is - stems kindness.
As I have been unpacking the character traits of God, my heart is drawn to the kindness He shows to me personally on a daily basis. God is kind just because it is in His nature. Every mannerism of God comes from a place of love. Creating mankind came from a place of love. Being kind to us is a fruit of His love. He takes time to rain on the just and the unjust everyday. (Acts 14:17) That means the sun also shines on all of us. He gives us the air we breathe. He provides the food we eat. He provides the water we drink. I don’t know about anyone else, but He supplies all of my needs. This is not because I am perfect, flawless or deserve it. This is just because He is kind.
When I looked up the word kindness I got a lot of different definitions. It was described as generous, considerate, affectionate, and even friendly. From a biblical stance it is selfless, merciful and even compassionate. When you see God’s kindness you experience all these things. The more time you spend in the Presence of God the more kindness emanates from His heart to yours.
Our salvation is a benefit of the kindness of God. It is ,”when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit,” (Titus 3:4-5 ESV) I liken my relationship with the Lord, like one who is in love with a new partner. Sounds a little silly to someone who doesn’t know Him intimately, but when you start to tap into the closeness it makes sense. Think about when you meet someone new and you anticipate talking to them. You get excited about the new things they do to win your attention and affection. You get glad that they were thinking about you enough to reach out. This is what I am seeing with God. He is in love with me and is showing me kindness.
I have become more intentional about looking for the kindness of God everyday. Psalm 69:16 says, “Answer me, O Lord, for Your lovingkindness is good; According to the greatness of Your compassion, turn to me,” (NASB 1995) The Psalmist knew that He could ask God to answer him because that loving kindness and compassion is who God is. Jeremiah 31:3 says that He draws us with lovingkindness. (KJV) This loving kindness is precious. You won’t find it anywhere, but in the Lord. Jesus was so kind that His entire ministry was dedicated to looking upon those others had thrown away and lifting them up. He ministered to the poor and needy. He healed the sick and raised the dead. He took in those who others saw as outcasts and He showed a sacrificial love to them. Jesus did it just because He is kind.
The person of Jesus was not just one who was kind as a characteristic. He personified what lovingkindness looks like. That is the kindness that I want more of. That is the kindness I want to show more of. I want to receive it so I can give it. I want to show Jesus to the world so that they can see Him, know Him and love Him. So as I look for more kind things God has done, I pause and think of the greatest gift of Kindness ever given - the remission of sin through Jesus Christ. John 15:13 describes it best, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (NKJV) And to be clear He did it..Just because He is kind.
Let’s pray: Jesus we thank you for your kindness. You came in the form of man to take away the sins of this world, just for us. We have never been treated as much care as You give us. You give us the air we breathe. You provide for us all the things we need. Lord, if we are in need all we have to do is ask. You are so kind. You grant many of our requests even before we ask. Right now we ask that You help us to stop and look at Your kindness more often. Show us how to draw closer to You so that we can give that kindness to those around us who need it most. You are so great, so mighty and strong yet You take the time to kindly love us. We can never thank You enough. You are amazing. We love You Lord because You first loved us. In Jesus' name we give You praise for Your lovingkindness. Amen.
If you are reading this and have never accepted Jesus as Your Lord and Savior this is the time. If you have once walked with God, but you have strayed away, here is your moment. There will never be a more ideal time than now to surrender your life to the One who loves you most. He wants to call you out of darkness into His marvelous light. No strings attached. No hidden motives. He just wants a relationship with you. If this is you please say the prayer below.
Sinner’s Prayer: Lord, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He died on the cross just for me. I also confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that He rose again on the 3rd day, paying my sin debt in full. He is now seated at the right hand of power, interceding for me to the Father. I thank You, Jesus, that as I pray this prayer and believe with my heart that You have saved me. I receive Your love and commit my life to You. You are now the Lord of my life. Thank You for all that You have done and will do for me in the future. In Jesus name, Amen.
