Drink From His Well

Have you ever been so thirsty that all you wanted was a drink of iced cold water? Remember how it felt when you finally got it? That feeling of relief and being quenched is something that our souls also desire. Proverbs 25:25 says, ”Like cold water to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.” (ESV) When someone comes to know Jesus Christ they come because they recognize that there is an insatiable thirst that cannot be satisfied by anyone else, but the Lord. That is the Gospel aka the good news.        This is the very reason why Jesus refers to Himself as living water. John 7:37-39 37, “On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, ‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes in me, as[a] the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not...

God-Filter

According to some scientific research, we process anywhere from 6k to 70k thoughts a day. What’s so interesting is that we don’t even realize how easily our minds can go places that we didn’t intend for them to go so quickly. One minute we could be thinking about what a great day it is and the next moment something could happen that changes the total course of events and the thought process for that day. Often I even find my mind wandering especially, when it is time to focus on God. I find my mind going from faith to doubt or love to fear. Like a car in need of a wheel alignment, our thoughts go from one side to the other unless we are careful to renew our minds daily. (Romans 12:2)       When walking through life it takes a lot of awareness that every thought that comes through our minds doesn’t come from God or even you. Some of them come from Satan. So many people would love to diminish the power of influence that Satan has, but it is true that...

Appreciate Them While You Can

“Appreciation can make a day, even change a life. Your willingness to put it all into words is all that is necessary.” —Margaret Cousins      This week the thought of appreciation weighed heavily on my spirit. Having some financial knowledge one would naturally think of some sort of tangible asset. For example, property, money or even some sort of business venture. Financial success or wealth most times hinges on making sound investments. In very rare cases, someone may win the lottery or be given a large sum of cash which could change the financial course of their lives forever. Even in that circumstance if the money isn't handled properly there won't be much left for very long. The word appreciation, as I thought and prayed about it, had less to do with income or wealth and more to do with the blessings that we experience daily. I recently met someone who was able to retire early. Though he had time and the money to enjoy it, he didn't have anyone special to enjoy it wi...

Self Examination Leads to Repentance

True repentance requires self reflection and the humility to see that we will make mistakes. When we come to know Christ, we come to Him knowing that we need a Savior. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life. (Romans 6:23 KJV) We need Jesus because nothing we could ever do would compensate for the original sin that entered the World. Isaiah 64:8 says that our sin is as filthy rags. Let’s be honest, there is none righteous without Christ. (Romans 3:10) The course of our lives was set in motion by our forefather, Adam, who allowed sin to enter into his heart and the world through his transgression. (Gen. 3) Therefore, we know that we were all born into sin. Psalm 51:5 says it best, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me”. (KJV) I mention all this to position us to realize that probing our hearts regularly takes someone who longs to please God. Repentance daily proves that we see that, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory...
