Wisdom Comes from the Lord (KWUA pt2)
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Proverbs 4:7 (KJV)
Last blog, I touched on the subject of Knowledge and the importance of knowing God in that respect. Tonight, it has come to my attention that Wisdom from the knowledge of God leads us in the best direction possible. It is almost like a path. Jeremiah 6:16 says,” Thus says the Lord: “Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls. (a) “ Using our own wisdom always leads us astray. That’s why Proverbs 19:3 says, “The foolishness of a person ruins his way, And his heart rages against the LORD.” (NASB)
The most interesting thing about wisdom is that we have to acknowledge that we need it and have to ask God for it. James 1:5 states, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.” God wants us to ask Him for directions. He wants to be at the helm of the ship in our lives. It is not a problem for Him to show us the way. Wisdom is the opposite of pride. It is humility. Since pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit before a fall, why not ask God? (Proverbs 16:18) Our own wisdom never gives us the clarity needed. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. (Proverbs 3:7)
I liken this to when someone is driving to a new place they have never been and not asking for directions to get there. They are clearly lost, but pride won’t let them ask for the way to wherever they need to go.. The person ultimately gets turned around and the next thing you know they are in the middle of nowhere. This is the way our lives are without the wisdom of God. Proverbs 28:26 “Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered.” It is easy to lean to our own understanding. It is easy to try to "wing" it in this life. We are used to doing it our way. The Bible cautions us not to rely on ourselves. (Proverbs 3:5-6) You want a path that leads to life and peace? Get your wisdom from God. Do you want a life that brings good success? Follow God’s instructions. (Proverbs 3:13-18)
When God asked King Solomon what he wanted from Him as the King of Israel, He asked for wisdom. (1 Kings 3:1-15) God honored him and even gave him riches, prosperity, and a life that only could only imagine. Why? Because God saw that Solomon knew that the only way he could be the best leader is to have God’s wisdom. I say all that to say that the principal thing is wisdom. (Proverbs 4:7) If you are in a place where you need to know the next step to take, ask God for wisdom. He will not only give it to you, but give you more of it than you could ever imagine. The wisest thing you can do is give your life over to the Lord. He will show You the way.
Let’s Pray: Lord, right now we ask for supernatural wisdom - the kind that only You can give. Show us how to follow You so that we don't stumble and fall. God, You have made it clear in your Word, so many times, that You will lead and guide us to a place of hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) You have said over and over that You have good things for us and will give us long life when we live according to your principles. Give us the mind to seek You first. (Matt. 6:33) As we step out on faith, we let go of our own wisdom and rely completely on You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
If you have read this and there was a tug at your heart to know God more and you know you don’t then allow me to lead you in the sinner’s prayer.
Sinner’s Prayer: Lord, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He died on the cross just for me. I also confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that He rose again on the 3rd day, paying my sin debt in full. He is now seated at the right hand of power, interceding for me to the Father. I thank You, Jesus, that as I pray this prayer and believe with my heart that You have saved me. I receive Your love and commit my life to You. You are now the Lord of my life. Thank You for all that You have done and will do for me in the future. In Jesus name, Amen.
