Knowledge of God's Word (KWUA pt1)

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, But fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV)

Knowledge is a necessity. The truth of the matter is that in our day and time we can be privy to more knowledge than we need. I remember when I was younger, I had to go to the library to find out about certain topics. Sometimes, I would have to read several books to garner enough information to write a paper or do a presentation. Now we have so much knowledge in the palm of our hands with computers, cell phones, the internet, television, etc. it can feel like we know it all. In the book of Daniel chapter 12 verse 4, God told Daniel about the end times. God told him about what is happening right now. It reads, “But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.” (NKJV)

Funny thing is that, when you insert God’s Word into this equation, it can make it easy for us not to get a deeper knowledge of it. We figure we don’t have to study God’s Word because we can just look up a certain scripture. We figure we can just turn on YouTube or any other internet outlet, watch a few videos and we are now an expert on the topics of Scripture. There is some serious error in this train of thought. Better yet, we can be easily deceived because we don’t have the knowledge of who God is. Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 24. Look at this verse 24, “ For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” (NKJV)

Just because someone is on YouTube doesn’t always mean they are preaching the true Word of God nor does it mean they have an in-depth knowledge of it for themselves. This is why you have to study God’s Word for yourself. (2 Tim. 2:15)  This is why you need to know what you believe from God’s rightly divided Scriptures and why you believe it. The truth is that we need to rely more heavily on God and what He says in His Word versus what you hear from other people. Reddit isn’t the Bible. No offense, but opinions aren’t knowledge. They are what someone thinks rather than facts. God’s Word stands that test of time. Isaiah 40:8 says, “The grass withers, the flower fades, But the word of our God stands forever.” (NKJV) The World will pass away before God’s Word will fall to the ground. (Matthew 24:35)

You know God’s Word by several things.

  1. The Word it sets you free. John 8:31-32, “ Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (NKJV)

  2. It is living and active. Hebrews 4:12 ESV For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

  3. It causes us to know God’s goodness which leads us to repent. (Romans 2:4)

  4. It is infallible. Matthew 5:17-18, John 10:35, and John 17:17

  5. There is historical evidence of the true accounts of events in the Bible. It is factual. Jesus, Himself fulfilled over 300 prophecies between His birth, life, death and resurrection.

There are so many other things I could say here, but I won’t right now. I will just encourage all of us to open our Bibles, study while asking God to reveal Himself to us through it and finally apply it to our daily lives. We will never know the light of God’s love unless we know Him through Jesus the Son. God is not hidden and if you want to know Him ask. He is more than willing to give you an understanding and depth of His Word clearly. Find Bible believing teachers that will not add or take away from the Word. If you have questions about things they should be able to show you the answer with the Scripture. (Deut. 4:2, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18-19)

Let’s Pray: Father God, we ask that You help us to gain our knowledge from Your Scriptures. Give us a hunger to know You and Your Word. Help us to study to show ourselves approved. Help us to know so that we can rightly divide Your Words. (2Tim. 2:15) Lord, give us discern who is a credible teacher as we seek knowledge for understanding. Lord, we long to know who You are. Jesus, we want to know the love You have for us. We want to know the freedom that comes through You, Jesus.(John 8:36)  Holy Spirit, open our eyes spiritually so that we may see clearly. (Ps.119:18) Lead us to the right leaders, churches, fellowships and others who will sharpen us as iron. Thank You for hearing these prayers in Jesus name. Amen.

If you have read this and there was a tug at your heart to know God more and you know you don’t then allow me to lead you in the sinner’s prayer.

Sinner’s Prayer: Lord, I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God. He died on the cross just for me. I also confess with my mouth and believe with my heart that He rose again on the 3rd day, paying my sin debt in full. He is now seated at the right hand of power, interceding for me to the Father. I thank You, Jesus, that as I pray this prayer and believe with my heart that You have saved me. I receive Your love and commit my life to You. You are now the Lord of my life. Thank You for all that You have done and will do for me in the future. In Jesus name, Amen.

It's Time to Get Off the Fence

Either you're for me or you're against me this is what Jesus said in Matthew 12:30. These are harsh words to some people, but it's a matter of loyalty to God. Are you going to go all in or keep one foot out because it's convenient? He also said if you're not gathering you're scattering. It's every believer's responsibility to draw others to Christ Jesus. (2 Corinthians 5:11)       It's relatively black and white. You're either pursuing a relationship with Christ or you're pulling back. Luke 9:62 says, “But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”(NASB)  It's so easy for people to say things like, "well there's more than one way to Heaven." Jesus said differently. He is the Way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Him. (John 14:6)  Convenience tells us to be neutral. One problem: Jesus wasn't neutral. He was radical....

Sufferings

"For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us." - Romans 8:18 I have to say that the scripture above never really had as deep a meaning as it has had in the last couple years, months, weeks, etc. of my life. Most people who know me personally or are following my blogs know my story to some extent. It's that I am: currently unemployed, living with my parents (again) after losing my job in Wichita, Ks. About 3 months before I lost my job, I suffered a seizure at the wheel and got into a horrendous car wreck; losing my driving privileges for 6 months and totaled out my vehicle (that I was still paying for without current insurance since I was recovering from the 2010 unemployment issue). Yeah, yeah, yeah...you all have heard my story. I have told it so many times I think I am even tired of hearing it. To say that I have had some challenges would be an understatement. To say that it has bee...

Patient with Me

One of the best qualities that exists in God is His patience.  The very first phrase is 1 Corinthians 13:4 is, “Love is patient.” (NIV) When I think about true love, I have to align my expectations with the Only True and wise God- with Jesus. He is the purest form of love. (1 John 4:8b) I think the most transcendent characteristic of the Lord is that He is patient. Not only is He patient, but He suffers long with us.       What is long suffering? From what I understand, it is made up of 2 different words in Greek that are long and temper. That in essence means, God has restraint even when He is upset.  He is not quick to retaliate or punish because of His displeasure. How many of us can say that we are like this? Psalm 103:8 describes it like this, “The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”(ESV)      When we look at the World around us we see that no one is patient. No one is willin...
