Take Your Authority
Whether you know it or not, you are a force to be reckoned with, in Christ Jesus. It may not seem that way sometimes, but believe me - you are! Why would I tell you that? I say that because at times we fail to realize who God has created us to be and what He has afforded us through the power of Jesus Christ. When Jesus rose from the grave, He rose with all power in His hands. Matthew 28:18 says, “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” (NKJV) When you have Jesus Christ you have the same authority. As a matter of fact, Jesus told the disciples that He gave them authority to trample on serpents, scorpions and all the power of the enemy. He even reassured them that nothing will harm them. (Luke 10:18)
This is not just for the Disciples, but it is a promise for every born again believer. If someone says that you don’t have the power then they are lying to you. There is nothing passive about spiritual warfare. We read in Matthew 11:12, “From the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has suffered violence, and the violent take it by force.” (ESV) What does this mean? That when Satan started the war in Heaven it was not something that was taken lightly. (Rev. 12:7-10) It wasn’t a rock paper scissors game. It wasn’t a thumb war. In every way, the devil has made it clear he doesn’t like humanity and envies us. When he was kicked out of Heaven he decided to wage war on humanity. This war is spiritual. Ephesians 6:12 says this, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (KJV)
As a believer, you have the upper hand. We have to stop playing patty-cake with Satan. We have to stand up for ourselves and our families. We have to take back the territory that God has given us. John 10:10 says that, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (NIV) This means that Satan by nature is a thief. That being stated, he should be dealt with and punished as such. If a thief came to our house, would we open the door, welcome him in and allow him to help himself to whatever he wanted? Or would we stand our ground and do whatever it took to keep ourselves, our families or our property safe? I know that I wouldn’t willingly allow an intruder into my home. Why do we give Satan access to take from us?
This has to stop! The only way the enemy can be stopped is when we put on the full armor of God like Ephesians 6:11-17 tells us to do. We are in a spiritual fight and we have to be prepared to fight as a soldier. The reality is that we have already overcome the enemy, but we have to be willing to stand guard and use the Word of God to make Satan step down. Jesus did it in the wilderness and that is our weapon now. (Luke 4:1-13) Our weapons are not carnal, but they are mighty through God to pull down strongholds, casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought into the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
I want to leave you with this thought: You have power. You have authority. You just have to walk in what you have been given. Satan has no power over you unless you allow it. He cannot take what doesn’t belong to him unless you relent. Stand your ground. Use the Word. Put on the full armor of God. Submit to God. Resist the Devil and he has to flee (James 4:7) . Speak God’s Word. Rebuke him and no matter what it looks like stand on the truth of Jesus Christ. I can tell you right now that you win!
Let’s pray: Lord, it feels like we are up against the ropes in our fight with the enemy. Lord, remind us that you have given us the power to trample on serpents and scorpions. Remind us that you have all the power on heaven and Earth. Since we know you we walk in the same authority that you have given us through your name, Jesus. Help us not to be afraid. Help us to stand therefore against the wiles of the enemy. (Ephesians 6:14) It was finished when you said it on the cross. (John 19:30) Now we have the advantage to put the enemy on the run. Help us to rebuke him when he comes up against us (Zechariah 3:2). Remind us to speak your word and stand our ground in Jesus name. We know we are overcame them by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. (Rev. 12:11) Help us to walk by faith and in strength in Jesus name. We take back everything that has been stolen. We take authority over thoughts of fear. We take authority over every work of Satan and we are upright on Your Word by faith in Jesus name. Amen.
