Fine Line

Today is Valentine's day, of course everyone who reads this today or when they see the time stamp will know that. This is relevant because being a Godly, single woman this day can mean so much. I have been having a dialogue with myself & God, about how not to feel pressure on days like today. More specifically, how can I continuously walk this fine line of being content in my singleness yet, being true to the desire within me that does want companionship.

It seems to me that in the Church, this issue is black and white. You are either married in essence having companionship and shouldn't have feelings or even think about singleness. Then there are those of you who are single and if this is the case then you need to "wait on God" to bring someone into your life. Some who already have someone, feel as though we should be grateful we are "free" quoting to us, 1 Corinthians 7:8, saying how we should stay unmarried. I, for one think that singleness is not the plague, but also realize that there is a need for one to feel as though they count for something to someone. I think that you can have this through more than one way, not necessarily with a husband or wife. If you have a strong support group that can help. I don't see anything wrong with being married either. Both can be a blessing. Then you have those other married people who are on the other side of the coin that feel like you have to be married so you can be fruitful and multiply as if there are not already 6.8 billion people in the world.

In saying all that, I had to get real with myself. I have to constantly reconcile my reality with my destiny. I feel that at some point God will bring someone into my life at the same time, I am currently single. At times this reconciliation, can be difficult and feel more like a tightrope act. I know that the more I yield these desires to my Father that He is doing something in me. He is sustaining me while single; while simultaneously preparing a place within me that will be ready to receive the person He is preparing just for me.

My final thought: Just as sanctification is a process so is learning to be content so don't give up, stay the course as this too shall pass. If you are single, do wait on God and that includes: meeting new people, making new friends and living a saved life. On that same line, don't be afraid of those moments where you want the companionship. Embrace them and make a healthy choice to find positive, Godly outlets to express the honesty of those times. Realize that no matter where you are there is always a worse or better place you can be.
